Dysport or Vistabel (Botox) is a muscle relaxant. The main active substance of these medical products is botulinum toxin. In small quantities this product blocks the transmission of nerve impulse between the nerve and the muscle, which ‘neutralizes’ the muscles at the injection location. This leads to temporary disappearance of wrinkles.
The procedure is safe and simple, if performed by a doctor who knows the anatomy of facial muscles. Small needles are used to make 8–15 injections into different points of the face. The procedure is painless and the patient may immediately resume daily activities. The procedure takes 20–30 minutes. It is not recommended to lie down or bend down for 3–4 hours after the procedure. The patient should avoid sun, sunbed and sauna for 1 week. Small papules and slight redness may remain at the injection locations for 1–2 hours after the procedure. The effects of the product will occur within 24–72 hours and will last for 4–6 months. It is recommended to repeat the procedure afterwards.
Botulinum toxin is used to eliminate mimic wrinkles (horizontal lines on the forehead), frown wrinkles between the eyebrows, and the crow’s feet. Dysport or Botox injections are also successfully used to treat palm and armpit perspiration. Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating, i.e., more than necessary to maintain normal thermal regulation of the body. Hyperhidrosis may manifest in different body areas, but the most common ones are palms, soles, and armpits. Excessive sweating causes discomfort, especially in stressful situations.
The procedure may be repeated not earlier than after 6–8 months.
